Cable diversion works boost Ringsend substation development

EirGrid recently completed diversion works on the Poolbeg-Inchicore No.1 220 kV cable circuit in Dublin. 

This circuit is critical to facilitate the construction of the new 110 kV Gas Insulated Substation at Ringsend, which will replace the existing Air Insulated Substation.   

The circuit was re-positioned as the original location was in direct conflict with the excavation area of the proposed new station.  

The project was delivered on schedule and to the agreed outage dates, thanks to collaboration with ESB Networks and ESB Engineering and Major Projects. 

This new substation is part of plans to enhance Dublin’s electricity system, strengthening the grid to ensure a more secure and reliable energy supply for homes, schools and businesses across the city.
