EirGrid Secures Planning Permission for Upgrade to Network Supplying Intel in Leixlip
EirGrid, the operator of Ireland’s electricity transmission system, has secured planning permission for a significant upgrade to the network supplying power to Intel’s manufacturing plant in Leixlip.
An Bord Pleanála granted approval for Capital Project 1029, which will involve the development of a new 220 kV electricity substation adjacent to the Intel plant and new electricity circuits to the facility. A planning application was submitted to the board in July.
The new substation will connect to the existing Maynooth-Woodland 220 kV transmission line located to the north of the facility.
Power will continue to be provided to Intel by 110 kV circuits and an upgrade of the Maynooth-Woodland line will also be required at a later point.
EirGrid is responsible for delivering electrical power to major electricity users in Ireland, including Intel.
