EirGrid, the operator of Ireland’s electricity grid, welcomes the opening of SciFest 2026 at the historic National Botanic Gardens of Ireland, marking a celebration of innovation, and young scientific talent.

SciFest 2026 will bring together students, educators, industry leaders, and the wider community to showcase cutting-edge science projects and ideas.

As a partner in SciFest, EirGrid continues its commitment to empowering the next generation of innovators.

Following a successful year of the partnership in 2025, which saw over 16,000 students from schools across the country take part, the EirGrid Cleaner Climate Award is back, recognising student projects that focus on renewable energy, environmental protection, and sustainable solutions.

Welcoming the official opening of SciFest 2026, Orlaith Diamond, Head of Sustainability at EirGrid said, "SciFest represents the curiosity, creativity, and purpose that drive meaningful scientific progress. We look forward to engaging with students and attendees throughout the competition and hear the ideas that will help shape a more sustainable and innovative future.

"EirGrid is proud to encourage young people to develop solutions that positively impact our planet and our future."

Speaking as SciFest launches its 20th anniversary year, Sheila Porter, SciFest Founder and CEO, said: "Twenty years ago, the first SciFest fair took place in Tallaght. Since then, tens of thousands of students have brought ideas to life - asking questions, testing solutions and presenting their work with confidence and pride.

"This milestone year is about recognising what makes SciFest possible: the commitment of our host colleges, the dedication of teachers and school communities, the enthusiasm of students nationwide, and the vital support of our funding and sponsorship partners.

"We are delighted to continue working with EirGrid, alongside our other partners, whose support plays a key role in inspiring the next generation of STEM thinkers and doers.

"2026 will be a year of celebration across the programme, and I would encourage every second-level student with an idea or a question to explore to enter SciFest. We can’t wait to see this year’s innovation, imagination and impact."
