All-Island Resource Adequacy Assessment
The All-Island Resource Adequacy Assessment (AIRAA) is an evolution of the Generation Statement Capacity (GCS) annual publication.
The AIRAA looks at the balance between electricity demand and supply on the island of Ireland for the next 10 years.
The annual publication allows industry, government, regulators and other stakeholders to facilitate the transition to renewable energy, supporting social and economic growth into the future, whilst ensuring the secure and resilient operation of the electricity system.
Outputs from this assessment are also used to inform the Single Electricity Market (SEM) Capacity Auctions, a mechanism to ensure that the electricity supply in Ireland and Northern Ireland continues to meet demand into the future.
All-Island Resource Adequacy Assessment 2025-2034
Inside this All-Island Resource Adequacy Assessment, you’ll find a comprehensive analysis of how demand and generation could evolve over a 10-year period from 2025-2034.
As part of the transition to the All-Island Resource Adequacy Assessment methodology, EirGrid and SONI have jointly undertaken two public consultations, firstly on the methodology and secondly on the inputs and assumptions.
We would like to thank our stakeholders from across the energy industry who have engaged and interacted with us throughout the consultation processes as part of developing this new process.
Additional documentation including the final methodology, detailed list of inputs and assumptions and previous publications is available below.
Next Steps
The All-Island Resource Adequacy Assessment 2025-2034 is the first edition following the transition to an updated methodology.
We hope you find this report useful, and that our insights can support decision-makers in the development of current and future energy policy.
Soon we will look to engage with our stakeholders as we look towards the next implementation of this assessment.
