Publication Scheme

Section 8 of the Freedom of Information Act 2014 requires FOI bodies to prepare and publish as much information as possible in an open and accessible manner on a routine basis outside of FOI, having regard to the principles of openness, transparency and accountability as set out in Sections 8(5) and 11(3) of the act.

This allows for the publication or giving of records outside of FOI provided that such publication or giving of access is not prohibited by law.

The scheme commits FOI bodies to make information available as part of their normal business activities in accordance with this scheme.

The sections below set out information on who we are and what we do, decision making, financial information, procurement, and historical data requests.

Information About EirGrid

EirGrid is the State-owned company that operates and develops the high voltage electricity transmission system in Ireland and, more recently, has been mandated to operate, develop and own Ireland’s offshore grid.

We also develop and operate interconnections with neighbouring grids and enable third-party interconnectors.

We manage the power flows on the electricity transmission system by sending power from where it is generated to where it is needed.

We also supply the distribution network operated by ESB Networks, which powers every electricity customer in the country.
